2007 – A Great Year Ahead for Job Seekers!

Despite low unemployment rates, the morale of the average American employee has been sinking as downsizing continually increases throughout the United States. Now the tide is starting to turn, and as we ring in the New Year, there is reason to be optimistic.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, expert opinion, and numerous employer surveys, we are entering a fantastic era for job seekers within the United States. The economy is enjoying a slow and steady growth, which is controlling inflation rates. Unemployment is still low, and a stable job market is predicted to remain strong throughout the upcoming year.

At the same time, employers are quickly losing qualified candidates as Baby Boomers retire and leave the workforce. This significant shift in human capital is causing employers to scramble for skilled labor. Corporations are expected to double their efforts in hiring and retaining qualified job seekers as the American well of skilled labor continues to dry up.

Of course, this is music to the ears of qualified job seekers, who are now in a better position to effectively negotiate bigger paychecks, flexible working conditions, and terms to improve their work/life balance. This is also great news for skilled laborers who are comfortable in their existing jobs. With a need for aggressive talent development, employers are more apt to offer comprehensive training and internal promotions.

As we continue to transition from the Industrial Age to the Information Age, employers become less necessary every day. Now armed with laptops, cell phones, and online communication access available around the globe, skilled professionals are opting for the freedom of self-employment. Today, over 14% of the population is self-employed, and those numbers are growing dramatically every year. Educated and qualified workers are now in a better position to contract their services out to the highest bidder, thus restoring a more balanced partnership between the employer and employee.

Even unskilled job seekers have a chance to get in on the booming service-based markets, which continue to grow and thrive throughout the country. Since many employers report having an increasingly difficult time finding qualified candidates for their available job openings, they are also opening up their resources to train undereducated workers to move up the ranks internally.

American workers, rejoice! This could be a great year to achieve all of your career aspirations.
