In the world of human resources there is a difference in resumes. The difference is based on the job opening. Since this is true there should also be a difference in what kind of resume the job applicant presents to the human resources representative.
The kind of resume we are focusing on is the sales resume. Sales resumes have to show what kind of salesperson you are and how well you have performed in the past. The goal of the sales resume is to sell yourself and your skills to the would be employer without ever opening your mouth.
In order to catch the attention of the reader you must include truthful sales results and actual instances where you exceeded expectations. Figures of past years or quarters that were extremely profitable are something that must be included and should be emphasized. What will really catch attention is the use of symbols and quantitative data (sold x number of widgets, bringing in $xxxxUSD), etcetera. You should definitely be including specific instances where you exceeded expectations, even include "accomplishments", this shows that you will be a very valuable employee and asset to the company.
Do not ever make up sales figures that can't be verified. Employers will normally not give out sales figures, even to verify your resume but it is still not a practice that is acceptable. Be truthful but always try to paint yourself in the best light possible using your actual history.
Remember that a sales resume is your chance to make a first impression and you have to show you know how to sell!
